Getting Your Swagger Right: a Step at a Time

Only the strongest survive! In 1859, Charles Darwin coined this controversial theory concerning human evolution. Paraphrasing the 162-year-old hypothesis, I believe Darwin intimated that the strongest would survive by acquiring particular skill sets, and this repertoire of skills can be classified as swagger. There are certain factors we must explore when we consider the DNA of swagger (swag). Swag is an attitude that combines style but is not solely reliant on it as it is entails conduct and demeanor as well. Swag is a collection of intangibles innate to our Essence and taught from those who have blazed before us. What makes up 'swagger,' and how do YOU know you have your Swagger Right? Broken down, swag is the mastery of qualities such as:

1. Confidence - Without confidence, swagger can not be effectively asserted. Confidence lends itself to body language, posture, eye contact, and tone of voice. The measured application of each can determine any given moment's success.

2. Charisma - Charisma is a person's ability to attract and influence. While it is often described as a mysterious quality that one either has or doesn't have, some argue that the skills of charismatic people can be learned and enriched.

3. Class - Cultivating class is a characteristic that is easily refined. Societal trends come and go; being classy and sophisticated will forever be timeless and is essential to swagger.

4. Style - Look good, feel good! Simply put, you feel the way you look. Factors such as color, fit, and occasion are considered when assembling the ideal style swagger.
